Did you know that also such an young and extraordinary kind of art as ice sculpture and ice painting has its own museum? Even it is just temporarly, you can admire these masterpieces in new Museum of Modern Ice in Chicago. This winter it is one of the many sights and actions that city has prepared to attract the visitors. Museum of modern ice is actually an art installation at Millenium Park, which is going to be displayed since 1-29, February 2008. This year tourists and also Chicago citizens can admire U.S. debut of cannadian artist Gordon Halloran. Halloran will show his biggest and most spectacular ice installation named Paintings bellow Zero, which is an enormous massive ice wall all coloured measuring 95 feet long and nearly 12 feet tall. One side of the wall should echoe renowned Chicago skyline and the other, full painted is "inspired by glacial wall in its final stages of movement towards the ocean." This should attract visitors to come back frequently to see the activity of the ice wall evolved by natural and planned changes. Another Halloran's displayed work will be painted ice rink, which people could skate on. He first developed this idea of painting on ice in early 90's when observed reflection of moon on the ice rink and he was fascinated with it. In 2006, Halloran showed his art as theCanada's representative at the Cultural Olympiad of the Olympic Winter Games in Turin. To create his spectacular paintings, Halloran uses portable refrigeration technology based on aluminium plates, which efficiently conduct the cold.
